Effort Renewed To Establish MH/MR and D&A Loan Forgiveness Program
On February 6, Representative Thomas Petrone (D-27) introduced a student loan forgiveness program into the House of Representatives that the House approved last year.
HB 282 PN 0314 is co-sponsored by 43 members of the House. HB 282 PN 0314 would provide for Commonwealth support for a Mental Health and Mental Retardation Staff Member Loan Forgiveness Program and an Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor Loan Forgiveness Program. Commonwealth residents who graduate from institutions of higher education and who apply their degrees to careers as mental health and mental retardation staff members in this Commonwealth would be eligible. The bill was referred to Health And Human Services Committee.
